About Shinagawa shuku
In 1601, Ieyasu Tokugawa began to build the Tokaido, which connects Edo and Kyoto, and established Shinagawa-shuku as the first inn. As a gateway to Edo, it became a gathering place for people, goods, and culture, and also developed as a place for entertainment in Edo. This wooden model is "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido, Shinagawa Hinode" drawn by Utagawa Hiroshige around 1835.
